In order to establish that your camera has expired shutter, it must have these symptoms below:

1) "Err" message flashes when you try to take pictures. You should hear mirror flipping up.

2) Even though you hear the mirror flipping up but the shutter curtains do not open. The same happens when you turn on the manual sensor cleaning mode. If the shutter curtains do OPEN, it's likely that your camera has a bad aperture control unit. Check here if that's the case.

*** If you camera has bad/broken shutter, symptoms could be different. Often you can observe the abnormalty of broken shutter if you manually flip up the mirror.
